Don’t Conform – Be Transformed
In this sermon based on Romans 12:1-2, Andy Hurley challenges us transform our minds in order to be more effective witnesses for Christ.
Paul challenges us:
A living sacrifice
12 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God – this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.
It is too easy to fall into the trap of conforming to the ways the world works. But Paul calls us to be transformed. To renew our minds and, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to follow God's will and purpose for our lives.
The sermon concludes with a recording of the African song, Indodana, arranged by Raif Schmitt and Michael Barrett. The words have been translated as:
The Lord has taken his son who lived amongst us,
the son of the Lord God was crucified.
Hololo Father Jehovah,
Zjem zja father.
They remind us of the great sacrifice Jesus made for us. Our response is a transformed life of sacrifice to him.
