In this sermon on Ephesians 4:17-32 we’re reminded to continue renovating our minds by confessing our faith on a regular basis.
A New Year, A New You – Our Own Renovations
So far this year, we have been thinking about our own renovations. All the things we have thought about in this series, A New Year, A New You lead to a total makeover, a total renovation of our lives.
Transform, Don’t Conform
Ephesians 4:22–24 TPT
And he has taught you to let go of the lifestyle of the ancient man, the old self-life, which was corrupted by sinful and deceitful desires that spring from delusions. Now it’s time to be made new by every revelation that’s been given to you. And to be transformed as you embrace the glorious Christ- within as your new life and live in union with him! For God has re-created you all over again in his perfect righteousness, and you now belong to him in the realm of true holiness.
Paul encourages us to be transformed, to literally change identities by putting off old self and putting on the new self. P also tells us we must continually renovate our minds.
Confess Your Faith
1 John 1:9 TPT
But if we freely admit our sins when his light uncovers them, he will be faithful to forgive us every time. God is just to forgive us our sins because of Christ, and he will continue to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
We need to renew our minds by confessing our faith as well as our sins.
Confessing Our Faith
1 Corinthians 15:3–4 NLT
I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.
Romans 6:11 NLT
So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus.
2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT
This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
John 8:36 NLT
So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.
Philippians 4:13 NLT
For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.
Philippians 1:6 NLT
And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.
Romans 8:1 NLT
So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.
1 John 4:4 NLT
But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.
Ephesians 3:20 NLT
Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.
