Telling Others about Jesus is Not Optional!

Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Matthew 28:18-20

Battle Drill Daily Devotional

Read Matthew 28:1-10 & 16-20.

Do you have a favourite chair? Chairs are not always comfortable for everyone, so when we find one we like, we make it ours.

The problem is that humans were not made to sit! Most of us are good at walking. Some of us are good at running. All of us are probably happy when we’re lying down! But we are not built to sit!

Jesus gives his followers a hard mission: Go and makes disciples of all nations. Even in today’s age of the “global village” that still seems like a daunting task. He said to identify those people as his followers, just days after he had been killed as a political outlaw. Today, being a Christian can be at best unfashionable. In certain parts of the world, it can lead to persecution, arrest and even death. And he commanded his followers to teach them to obey his instructions. How is that possible when we can’t always keep them ourselves?

Jesus doesn’t say it’s easy, but he does say, just do it! Participating in Jesus’ Great Commission is not an option. We cannot simply decide to stay seated in our homes or in our churches and opt out!

Whether Jesus calls us to go next door or to the ends of the earth, every one of us is called to make disciples. We may not all be professional evangelists, but we have all received at least one gift of the Holy Spirit to help fulfil the Great Commission by making the Good News attractive and persuasive.

As we obey Jesus in the coming days, we do so knowing that he is always with us. Take courage, my friends!

The Lord’s command to go into the world and preach the gospel unto all,
Is just as true today as when his first disciples heard this mighty call;
So let us gird ourselves and go to battle ‘gainst the powers of sin and wrong,
Join the fight for the right, in his everlasting might, and sing our marching song:

The victory’s sure; we’re trusting in the promise of our Saviour, Lord and King;
Lo, I am with you, keeps us free from doubting; to the heavens our praises ring;
The whole wide world shall come beneath the sway of Christ; proclaim it loud and long,
Join the fight for the right, in his everlasting might, and sing our marching song:

On we march with the blood and the fire,
To the ends of the earth we will go;
And the Saviour’s love will be the theme of our song
Because we love him so.
On we march with the blood and the fire,
To the ends of the earth we will go;
And the Saviour’s love will be the theme of our song
Because we love him so.
