Build Your Life on the Truth

Get the truth and never sell it; also get wisdom, discipline, and good judgment.

Proverbs 23:23

Battle Drill Daily Devotional

One of the greatest qualities we can possess is wisdom. The Book of Proverbs is full of timeless advice that takes us beyond mere education and knowledge and helps us understand the importance of wisdom in the Kingdom of God. This week, we look at five different aspects of wisdom. You can catch up on yesterday’s sermon here.

What do you want most in life? What is your life built upon? In his parable of the wise and foolish builders, Jesus makes clear the consequences of building your life on the wrong things. Soon you discover you have built on sand, and eventually what you’ve relied upon collapses with a mighty crash.

You can build your life on what other people think. But often, they’ll change their minds and then you find yourself left in the lurch. You can build your life on what’s fashionable. But fashions change. They get thrown out and replaced by something else.

The Bible says build your life on things you can trust: the truth, wisdom, discipline and good judgment. All are available to us as gifts from God. We can learn them by opening and reading God’s Word. The more time we spend learning what God is saying to us, and how he reveals himself to us, the more truth there will be in our lives and the more wisdom, discipline and good judgment we’ll learn.

Be thou my wisdom, be thou my true word;
I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father and I thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling and I with thee one.

Think It Over

Think about the following:

  • How much time do you spend in God’s Word each day? Does it reflect the amount of time you want to devote to gaining truth, wisdom, discipline and good judgment?
